1986 | 1986 In the course of premeditation, numerous valuable proposals concerning the planning and development of this institute and other related educational aspects were contributed by several prominent leaders in education, science, and technology, including Dr. Y. 1989 | Received formal permission to recruit students for the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Department of Computer Engineering and the Department of Industrial Engineering in April. Ranked by Ministry of Education as one of the best private institution among the nationwide universities in January. We became sister schools with the University of Missouri, and signed a cooperation agreement with Duke University, in February. We also signed an exchange agreement with Yunnan University in April, and a cooperative memo with Nanjing University, and signed a cooperative research agreement with Ohio University in December. Granted approval to establish department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature, and the graduate programs in Chemical Engineering with a Degree of Ph. D. in February. Nominated by the Global Views magazine as "the most potential university in the next decade" in June. Gained the certificate of ISO9001 in the field of teaching and administration by the British Standard institution U.K. in September. Yuan Ze was the first university to receive this honor in Taiwan. |

A cooperation agreement was made respectively with University of Arizona University in January and with Kansas University in January. Granted approval to establish Department of Information Networking Technologies and Department of Resources & Environmental Technologies in January. In February granted approval to establish Department of Applied Chinese Language and Literature, Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Management Technologies, and Graduate school of Visual Arts Administration. Granted approval to establish the graduate programs in graduate School of Management with a Degree of Ph. D. in March. And granted approval to establish Department of Sociology, Graduate school of Business Administration, and Graduate school of Finance in December. Ranked by Ministry of Education as the first among nationwide educational Engineering institutions in February. Nominated by the Global Views magazine as " the most ambitious and most progressive university among the nationwide educational institutions" (May 1999). In January, granted approval to establish Department of Communications Engineering. In September, granted approval to establish Graduate school of Communications Engineering, Graduate school of International Business, and Graduate school of Accounting. In April, awarded the Prize for the category of Engineering by the Ministry of Education in its evaluation of the middle-range developing blueprints of the private universities nationwide of 1999. This university was given the most grant. In April, the research grants for professors in 2000 by the National Science Council were bulletined. This university continued to be ranked as No. 1 among the private universities by 22.29% grant-winning rate. It was even better than quite a few national universities. In May, ranked as the first place among the private universities nationwide in the areas of management and engineering by China Times' Company of Cultivating Talented People in its " Catalogue of Nationwide Universities of 2001". In June, awarded 'the Prize for School of Excellent Performance' in the College Group by the Ministry of Education for the "Experimental integration plan of combining teaching, instructing and guiding together". In September, the Department of International Business carried out the policy of using English to teach all expertise courses, which was the first teaching innovation throughout this country |

Ranked by Ministry of Education as one of the best private universities nationwide in June, and be evaluated as the Best University in promote physical education in September. In June, passed the test and gained the Certificates of ISO14001 & OHSAS018001 management system of environmental and vocational sanitary security of the British BSi Company, and the Certificate of the renewed edition for ISO9001: 2000. Yuan Ze was the first university in Taiwan to be certified by OHSAS018001. It was also the first university in Taiwan to pass all the above-mentioned three Certificates of international standard. In August granted approval to establish Graduate school of Electro-Optical Engineering, and Graduate school of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. In March, the first honorary doctoral degree of engineering was to Doctor Yuan T. Lee. In July, Yuan Ze was ranked the first by the Ministry of Education for the best performance on the entirety of five evaluated items in the university (group II) among the nationwide private educational institutions in July. In the same month, Yuan Ze was nominated as “the Best New and Developing University” by Career magazine (Issue 327). In October, Yuan Ze was accredited the 14th National Quality Award by Executive Yuan, which brought Yuan Ze the first educational institute in Taiwan with the highest honor in the category of national quality. In December, Yuan Ze was awarded as “Good” in “The Action Plan for Building an English Living Environment in 2003” by the Research, Development and Evaluation Commission of the Executive Yuan and the Ministry of Education |

In February, Yuan Ze was evaluated as "The Legend in Taiwan's higher education" in Hong Kong's Ming Pao Monthly. In August, Yuan Ze was ranked by the Ministry of Education as “superior” in six out of seven guidelines for the 2002 school academic year. In the same month, Yuan Ze was nominated “the most welcome graduate student among national private education institutions elected by the enterprises” by the Global Views magazine. In October, Yuan Ze was ranked the first place in “the best master programs of private universities” and had been enjoying a good reputation among enterprises, according to Career Magazine’s enterprise survey |
2005 |
In May, Yuan Ze was qualified for one of thirteen universities in the “Awarding University Teaching Excellence Project” programmed by the Ministry of Education and received a subsidy of 68 million NT dollars. In August in the “2005 University School Administration Assessment” held by the Ministry of Education, YZU was evaluated “superior” in six out of seven guidelines in the school administration category and evaluated “superior” in three guidelines all in the specialty category. In October, Yuan Ze was selected to join the “Aiming for the Top University and Elite Research Center Development Plan” by the Ministry of Education, and became one of the 12 top universities in Taiwan. |

In April, Yuan Ze was ranked the third place as “the most popular private university graduates among enterprises” according to Career Magazine’s survey. In August, College of Electrical and Communication Engineering was established, integrating Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Communications Engineering, Department of Electro-Optical Engineering, and Department of Manufacturing Engineering. In December, Yuan Ze was ranked the eighth place, the first among private universities, as “the most favorable EMBA in 2007” based on Cheers and Commonwealth Magazines’ survey |

In April, YZU was rated as “excellent” by the Ministry of Education for “Private University Student Affairs and Counseling Tasks of 2006.” In May, Yuan Ze was ranked the second place among private universities as “the most popular freshmen among enterprises” based on the Internet survey of 1111 human resources bank |
2008 |
In April, all the departments of College of Engineering and College of Electrical Communication Engineering were granted the IEET recognition certificates by the Chinese Institute of Engineering. In May, Yuan Ze was ranked the first place in “promoting quality of graduates” in evaluation of university graduates in Taiwan according to Global Views Magazine’s survey. In August, Yuan Ze was subsidized by the Ministry of Education’s “Plan for rewarding excellence in university teaching.” In October, Yuan Ze’s Far Eastern Telecom Building won the first prize of “Taiwan Architecture Award.” Along the way, Yuan Ze achieved excellence in “university student affairs and counseling of 2008 academic year” – only two universities were granted the honor. In November, Yuan Ze received the biggest subsidies nationwide by the Ministry of Education’s “Plan for rewarding private universities’ administrative affairs of 2008 academic year.” |
2009 |
In January, the “Far Eastern Telecom Building” received the gold award of the “2nd Taoyuan Architecture Award.” ( “Public and History Building” Group) In February, Yuan Ze initiated the “Faculty and Staff’s Pension Fund Project.” On March 14, as celebrating the 20th anniversary, Yuan Ze envisioned itself to become a bilingual university and planed a series of celebration events based on the theme of “Embracing the twenty-year mile stone, laying a foundation for the next century”: the anniversary ceremony, “A coming-of-age gift,” the opening ceremony of Student Dorm 3, the anniversary luncheon, the establishment of “Vertical Garden,” and the “9th Community Arts Festival.” In addition, a series of commemorative albums were published to keep track of the growth of 20 years of Yuan Ze: “History of Yuan Ze, Leaping High and Breaking Through, the second decade (1999-2009),” “Words roaming with scenes, Yuan Ze 20 photographs,” and “20th Yuan Ze University, the album of art, 1999-2009.” In April, Yuan Ze was ranked the 3rd place in the “Most active university in promoting the graduates in employment” based on the survey of the Global Views Magazine. (Taiwan University was ranked the 1st place, Cheng Kung University the 2nd) In May, Yuan Ze was selected as the only model university of the country that excels in the greenhouse gas emission reduction by the Ministry of Education; in June, President Perng signed the Tallories Declaration in the Ministry of Education. In August, Yuan Ze received NT$ 128 million subsidy fund from the “Teaching Excellence Project” by the Ministry of Education (the amount is the 2nd of the country). In October, Yuan Ze was the only university assessed as “exceptionally excellent” in the “Evaluation and Survey of the University Campus Environment Management” by the Ministry of Education. 2010 |
On March 13, based on the main theme of “Health, Sustainability, LOHAS Campus” of the 21st anniversary, series of activities were held for students to celebrate this special occasion; the “Yuan Ze Judo Team,” “Ballroom Dancing Club,” and “Yuan Ze Orchestra” were invited to perform on stage to exhibit the diversity and vitality of the campus. At the 21st anniversary concert, Dr. Yu-Yu Wu of the National Taiwan University of Arts was invited to be the director-general of the concert. The brand new “Yuan Ze Orchestra” cooperated with the internationally renowned pipa player “Chao-Yun Luo” to perform the symphonic poem “Ambush from All Sides,” which won wide acclaim among the public. In April, according to the “enterprise survey of the graduates” by the Global Views Magazine in 2010, Yuan Ze was ranked the first place in “promoting the quality of graduates.” In addition, Yuan Ze was evaluated as one of the best universities that “promoted the environmental protection in 2010” by the Environmental Protection Department, Executive Yuan. In October, Yuan Ze University was awarded the first prize of “promoted the environmental protection.” In December, Yuan Ze University was approved the first trail of Teaching Excellence Program by the M.O.E. In addition, Yuan Ze was charted “2009 Greenhouse Gas Emission Certification” by SGS in Taiwan. |

In January, Yuan Ze received NT$ 100 million subsidy fund from the “Teaching Excellence Project” by the Ministry of Education (the amount is the 2nd of the country). On March 12, based on the main theme of “Green University and Eco life” of the 22nd anniversary, series of activities were held for students to celebrate this special occasion; the “Yuan Ze Choir,” and Yuan Ze excellent alumnus Mr. Yu-Chun Lin were invited to perform on stage to exhibit the diversity and vitality of the campus. At the 22nd anniversary concert, Dr. Yu-Yu Wu of the National Taiwan University of Arts was invited to perform with “Yuan Ze Orchestra,” and they performed the famous concerto “Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto,” “Warsaw Concerto,” which won wide acclaim among the public this year. In early May, Commissioners from the Ministry of Education visited Yuan Ze for the evaluation of university affairs. The commissioners examined the documents, had a discussion with directors and interviewed with the selected faculty members and students based on the five criterions, “self-positioning,” “University governance and management,” “Continuous improvement and quality,” “Teaching and Learning Resources” and “Performance and social responsibility”. |
