Due to a government committee’s decision to raise power prices on June 27th, colleges and universities started to call for freezing prices. In 2011, Yuan Ze University is the first university to obtain ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems certification in the world which is taking steps to save electricity. On July 13th, YZU is the first university to replace the LED lamps in outdoor stadium to solve the long-term inconvenience of high-altitude replacement and high-cost maintenance that has saved considerable electricity bills for the school. With zero maintenance costs, multi-faceted solar photovoltaic installations and the replacement of lamps in the whole school, YZU has saved 15% of electricity bills to cover the budget gap. YZU expects to demonstrate an example of energy-saving campus to transform school life and contribute to sustainable development.
