YZU English Summer Camp had eight years long with a thousand students each year since 2009. The eight-day camp, which opened on August 30, helps students study in English-taught classes. With teachers’ guidance, students gradually fit into bilingual environment in the school and meet new friends from different departments. Now YZU is also the only university in Taiwan that asks all freshmen to participate English camp.
Professor I-Chung Ke (柯宜中), Director of Department of Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics, said that the students are in all-English learning environment during eight days. It inspires freshmen to study on their own and get used of English-taught in the university. Ke said that 180 students in English courses, which are enrolled by five colleges, also have to join the camp to develop their confidence and habits of speaking English in public.
